We have so many different clients who come to Oxygen Pilates, it’s not just for women only! Craig is one such client who doesn’t fit the stereotypical image of a Pilates devotee. He recently shared with us how Pilates has changed his life:
“Exercise means different things to different people, for some it is and has always been intertwined in to their everyday lives, for others like me it is something that has been put on the back burner for many years whilst I did “other” things. The “other” things for me were a lifelong passion for riding motorcycles, immensely enjoyable but they have left me lingering reminders from the occasional mistakes I have made.
Fast forward to 2014 and a shoulder reconstruction, following a crash, prompted me to seek out Philippa’s help in developing a rehabilitation regime that would give me back full use and mobility of my arm, an essential need if I was going to continue to enjoy my life as a motorcyclist. The rehab started with a few one on one sessions which turned in to regular reformer classes and now I even turn up to regular yoga classes.
Why do I keep going? I found that it was not only my new shoulder that was getting better but I have been able to cope a lot better with the other injuries I have. Even with my ageing body I found my core strength was increasing, my flexibility has improved and I have found muscles that I did not know I had. I continue to ride motorcycles and all of the work I do at the studio benefits not only my general health but has improved my riding fitness and style, I can now ride harder, faster and longer – on the race track of course.
I could go to any gym or studio to get my exercise need but, for me, it is the people who make the difference. Philippa, and her great team just make a visit to the studio so enjoyable, even when they make me find a muscle I seemed never to have used before. “
