It can be hard to take a good long look at ourselves, determine what we want and then set
realistic goals – sound right?
Well I think it is. It feels like life is moving so quickly that just getting through each day the best we can for
our children, ourselves and work commitments feels like a goal in itself. But there must be more we want for ourselves, health, fitness, real family time etc. So what is your goal this week? Month? Year?
Why not set some manageable goals and feel the awesome reward when we reach them?
Here are a few tips to help you set and meet your goals. 1. Set SMART Goals
You have probably heard of “Smart Goals” already. But are the goals true to you or what
you think others are looking for?
The simple fact is that for goals to be powerful they need to be truly your goals. There are many variations of what SMART stands for, but the essence is this – goals should
be:
• Specific. • Measurable. • Attainable. • Relevant.
• Time Bound.
2. Set Specific Goals
Your goal must be clear and well defined. Vague or generalized goals are unhelpful
because they don’t provide sufficient direction. Remember, you need goals to show you
the way. Make it as easy as you can to get where you want to go by defining precisely
where you want to end up. 3. Set Measurable Goals
Include precise amounts, dates, and so on in your goals so you can measure your degree
of success. If your goal is measured you will more likely see results faster and be inspired
to keep going. 4. Set Attainable Goals
Make sure that it’s possible to achieve the goals you set. If you set a goal that you have no
hope of achieving, you will only demoralize yourself and erode your confidence. Don’t forget that sometimes a goal can be to take time for yourself and loved ones to set a
goal to have tea with a friend once a week could be a goal for some that find it hard to
